There are definitely times when it's not advisable to buy a canopy bed set. For heavens sake don't consider five or more pieces of matching furniture if you're short on cash or have a small house. All those different pieces need some room to "breathe" so don't try to cram them all into a small room. The whole thing will look cluttered and completely out of keeping.
Make sure there's plenty of room for each piece to be admired in its own right. Similarly I wouldn't have a impressive bedroom complete with canopy bed set if the rest of my house wasn't as impressive. It will just make you look like you're trying to be something you're not. So if you're whole house has well considered interior design through out then great. Otherwise think again.
