If you are considering a canopy bed set then I would recommend you go the whole hog and make sure your bedding also matches all the furniture. You've already decided to have a very strong themed look to your bedroom so I don't think there's any point now in interfering with that look by suddenly adding very different and contrasting bed linens.
If you've gone for a sober bed set with clean lines and classic colors don't go and confuse the whole look by suddenly adding in colorful and wacky bed linens. Keep like with like or the bedroom will look too "busy". Otherwise what's the point of having matching furniture?
