Personally I would be more likely to choose a canopy bedroom set for a child. Children seem to get more of a kick out of having everything match. If your little girl wants a princess canopy bed she will probably want the matching vanity mirror and dressing table as well. If your boy is into an explorer them he will want to see that right across his bedroom.
For adults I sometime think that when everything matches it show a little lack of imagination. I prefer to buy a piece I really love and then over the years take the time to find other items that suit. That way it's always an ongoing project of making the room exactly the way I want it.
