So what type of canopy bed set is right for you? Think about this carefully because this isn't the kind of thing you buy every day. Whatever you do choose something that your still going to be happy with in a few years time. Don't just choose something that is flavour of the month unless you want to be "so yesterday"!

I prefer classic old styles like an antique European look or a simple wooden design with classical dark colors. These types of designs have been around for centuries so should be good for a few more years at least. If you can afford it why not look for real antiques? They maybe expensive but you can see them as something of an investment as they will only increase with value over time.

There are definitely times when it's not advisable to buy a canopy bed set. For heavens sake don't consider five or more pieces of matching furniture if you're short on cash or have a small house. All those different pieces need some room to "breathe" so don't try to cram them all into a small room. The whole thing will look cluttered and completely out of keeping.

Make sure there's plenty of room for each piece to be admired in its own right. Similarly I wouldn't have a impressive bedroom complete with canopy bed set if the rest of my house wasn't as impressive. It will just make you look like you're trying to be something you're not. So if you're whole house has well considered interior design through out then great. Otherwise think again.

If you are considering a canopy bed set then I would recommend you go the whole hog and make sure your bedding also matches all the furniture. You've already decided to have a very strong themed look to your bedroom so I don't think there's any point now in interfering with that look by suddenly adding very different and contrasting bed linens.

If you've gone for a sober bed set with clean lines and classic colors don't go and confuse the whole look by suddenly adding in colorful and wacky bed linens. Keep like with like or the bedroom will look too "busy". Otherwise what's the point of having matching furniture?

Personally I would be more likely to choose a canopy bedroom set for a child. Children seem to get more of a kick out of having everything match. If your little girl wants a princess canopy bed she will probably want the matching vanity mirror and dressing table as well. If your boy is into an explorer them he will want to see that right across his bedroom.

For adults I sometime think that when everything matches it show a little lack of imagination. I prefer to buy a piece I really love and then over the years take the time to find other items that suit. That way it's always an ongoing project of making the room exactly the way I want it.
